Decoy Course
Duration: 1 Week (5 working days)
Students: Up to 10
Pre-Requisites
- Extremely physically fit
- Able to lift 50 kg
- Willing to wear K9 biting clothing and equipment
- Must be assigned to a government K9 unit or an accredited K9 association
- Must attend with an assault dog to allow for multiple bites.
Course Description
This course is designed to train handlers to read their dogs’ body language, enabling them to use that information to enhance their dogs’ abilities and advancing it to the next level of aggression, control or maintain its current level of training. Training will include theoretical and practical exercises with different scenarios.
Course Outline
- K9 communication and how to understand it
- How to recognize the stress in the dog, know why and how to fix it
- Understanding how the K9 drives are used to build confidence in the dog
- How knowing the dogs’ body language can identify confidence or environmental problems
- How to build the Drive triangle
- Bite position and pressure
- Targeting and re-engagement
